September 2026 Entry date: At the next possible time Scope of work: Full-time job Reference number: 00005138 The data center is one of the central institutions of the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg and is assigned directly to the Rectorate according to the basic regulations of the university. As a service centre with over 100 employees, it secures the University's basic IT services and provides modern, efficient and secure IT infrastructures for research, teaching and administration. For this position we are looking for an experienced and integrated management personality with a strong service orientation, which the data center further develops as a reliable service provider for research, teaching and administration, shapes the university's IT overall architecture and represents the data center within the university as well as in national, federal and European associations.

Your duties Personal guidance of the data center Technical responsibility for the overall IT architecture for research, teaching and administration, including budget planning and decision on operating models Development and updating of the data center's technical strategy (e.g. technology roadmaps, architecture principles and integration of cloud services) in coordination with university objectives and the university's digital and IT strategy Continuous development of a service-oriented performance portfolio to support faculties and central university institutions in their specific IT requirements Cooperation with the University Library (UB) and the Central Data Facility (CDF), in particular to support research data management, digital library services and information services according to § 28 LHG Baden-Württemberg Representation of the data center and the university in university bodies, in technical specialist associations and in high-level and administrative contexts leading reporting to Rectorate and University Institutions; close cooperation with the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and the central IT bodies of the University

Your profile completed academic degree (Master/Diplom); a promotion is desirable Multiannual professional and leadership experience in a leading IT position, preferably in the field of higher education or science Proven expertise in the design and operation of complex IT infrastructures and architectures (network, server, storage, HPC, cloud and hybrid models) Proven competence in leadership and development of teams as well as pleasure in cooperative leadership Proven knowledge of information security and data protection, including relevant standards (e.g. ISO/IEC 27001, BSI IT-Grundschutz) Experience in committee work and cooperation in inter-universal associations is advantageous Strong organizational skills, experience in project management and excellent communication skills in word and writing, both in German (level C1) and in English (level B2) Application documents We are pleased to receive meaningful application documents, including: CV Certificates and certificates Evidence of previous professional experience and management competence Short concept for the future technical-strategic orientation and further development of the University Computing Centre (max. 1 DIN-A4 page)
