Number: MER0003WK In the development of cars, we are responsible for the corrosion protection of the entire vehicle for Mercedes-Benz. For this purpose, corresponding corrosion protection measures must be developed and defined for each component depending on the installation position, the material combinations and the corrosive load. In the development process, the effectiveness of the measures is then checked for their effectiveness in field-correlating corrosion tests. These tests are very time-consuming and cause high costs. Therefore, we aim to simulate the influence of corrosion on components and vehicles quickly, efficiently and correlating to field results using numerical methods on the computer. The development process is then supported at a very early stage and the product maturity is also increased in the digital product development phase. To date, basic corrosion simulations have been developed for material and geometry bases on body components under simple climate influences. As part of the projected internship, test components are to be stored and examined in different climate change tests. The aim of the internship is to parametrize the climate change tests with regard to their corrosion influence in order to further develop the corrosion simulation. These challenges include: Introduction to the topic and the existing evaluation methods
Preparation and coating of corrosion samples
Conduct and support of corrosion tests
Evaluation and documentation of the test results
The activity can begin from February 2026.
Study programme in the field of chemical engineering, materials science, chemistry, mechanical engineering, surface engineering, etc.
Secure knowledge of German and English in word and writing
Safe handling of MS Office, ideally Matlab knowledge
Independent and structured operation
Embossed target and result orientation
Reliability, fun in experimental work
Laboratory experience desirable
