Research into distributed decision architectures and cooperative swarm strategies for autonomous underwater systems. From the sea floor to the air – the networked, autonomous and robotic systems from tomorrow! – Whether under water, surface or air: The future of maritime safety lies in the intelligent cooperation of distributed systems. Autonomous swarms and system alliances offer enormous potential – from resilient security applications to adaptive rescue networks to large-scale environmental monitoring. It is crucial that each individual system not only works reliably, but acts intelligently in the composite. Design the next generation of distributed, autonomous systems – with a focus on decision-making, cooperation and swarm intelligence under water. – In our interdisciplinary team you work at the interface of artificial intelligence, robotics and safety-critical systems. The focus of your activity is on research and development of decision architectures and interaction mechanisms for autonomous systems in the maritime context. You develop new concepts, prototypes and system architectures and use them together with your team – in laboratory environments and in real use conditions. Your tasks You take over the technical and organizational management of a dynamic team of software developers, data scientists and system engineers with a focus on decision logic, swarm behavior and agent interaction. You define and tax research and development projects for the decision-making of autonomous systems in the context of water, air and land. You develop decision-making architectures and cooperation strategies for swarms and hybrid system alliances together with your team. You coordinate the connection of your work to cross-border navigation, communication and sensor networks and work closely with neighbouring teams. You prepare technology testing, accompany experiments and secure scientific and technical documentation. You will present the research results in specialised bodies and conferences, submit applications for funding and represent the topics to industrial partners, authorities and international networks.
