As a family-friendly company, the Cuxhaven County promotes part-time employment to the greatest possible extent in order to improve the reconciliation of family and work. The county of Cuxhaven is one of the large counties of Lower Saxony with a size of approximately 2.050 km2 and its nearly 200,000 inhabitants. With over 1,100 employees, the county administration is located directly in the North Sea resort Cuxhaven. The Cuxland is an attractive holiday country between the North Sea, Elbe and Weser and offers a family-friendly orientation as well as many leisure opportunities on land and on the sea. In addition to the attractiveness of the landscape, the Cuxhaven county would like to present itself as an attractive employer. The General Social Service (ASD) department currently includes 33 employees. The department is facing ever-growing challenges. On the one hand, more and more families have a need for support. This entails increasing costs for which there is no refinancing by the federal or state. On the other hand, this high need for assistance, inter alia linked to demographic change, leads to a shortage of skilled workers in the county and the service providers. The further challenges are the implementation of digitalization, the further development of the field of expertise, the implementation of the new contracts concluded in 2026 with the supporters of the youth aid stations, in particular the controlling of the contracts, the development of new aid for the families in the county and standards for the ASD as well as the expansion of the ASD network. The constant change of tasks and the progressive digitization require a high degree of readiness to change. At the same time, acute crises in the families require a high level of resilience in the management of the department. .
