In addition to the local tasks at the site, the research biobank is part of the bioprobe hub in the university medicine network (NUM). In the NUM, scientists from all 36 university medical locations in Germany work together on the basis of an extensive infrastructure platform in interdisciplinary research projects. The biosample hub, also known as Biosample Core Unit (BCU), ensures the high quality of the biosamples obtained and used by standardizing and harmonizing the processes in sample collection, processing, storage and output at all participating study centres and biobanks. A recruitment of staff already employed at the University of Bielefeld is excluded by the requirements of the third-party funder.
